Rauner, Orland Park mayor take tax reform vow to homeowners

Taxes 760x475

Gov. Bruce Rauner and newly elected Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau visited homeowners Ken and Andi Borucke to assure them that Republicans agree: Property taxes are too high.

“Illinois home and business owners pay the highest property taxes in the nation,” Rauner said in a video released by Central Management Services. “We can’t just keep sticking it to the taxpayers without any real property tax relief.”

Rauner is pushing for a property tax freeze that would remain in force unless residents vote for a change. He also has said he intends to veto any budget proposal that does not include property tax relief.

Pekau applauded Rauner's statements.

“In Orland Park, we remain committed to keeping your taxes as low as possible while still maintaining the quality of services you expect and deserve,” he said, according to a press release. “I am glad the governor is pushing for property tax relief to help our residents.”

Andi Borucke said she'd love to see Rauner's words become reality.

“We love Illinois, but one thing we’ve never loved is our property taxes,” she said. “The current system doesn’t work and hurts working families like ours that have done everything right. We deserve to have more of a voice in our property tax system. We keep paying more and more money but see little value in return.”

Rauner and Pekau's visit can be viewed online.
