Prairie Junior High School District 126 Board of Education met Aug. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Board and audience stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL 

Secretary Pierce called the roll.

Present:         Marigrace Sinnott-Snook, President 

Joe LaChica, Vice President 

Lori Pierce, Secretary 

Donna Waldrom 

Harry Tannehill 

Therese Zaker

Absent:          Kim Powers

Also Present: Craig Gwaltney, Superintendent 

Steve Gress, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations 

Lori Connolly, Director of Teaching and Learning 

Robert Condon, Director of Special Education 

Claudia Peralta, Bilingual Director

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Joe LaChica, “To approve the minutes of the June 11, 2020 Regular Board Meeting”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Waldrom, Tannehill, Sinnott-Snooks, Pierce, LaChica, Zaker. Nay: none. The motion carried 6

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Therese Zaker, “To approve the minutes of the June 29, 2020 Special Board Meeting”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Waldrom, Tannehill, Sinnott-Snooks, Pierce, LaChica, Zaker. Nay: none. The motion carried 6-0.

CONSENT AGENDA 

Therese Zaker moved, seconded by Donna Waldrom, “To approve the Consent Agenda”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Zaker, LaChica, Sinnott-Snooks, Waldrom. Nay: none. The motion carried 6-0.

FOIA REQUESTS 

Steve Gress reported that we received FIOA's from Comcast, Banish Excavating Inc., SmartProcure, City wide Building Materials Inc. and Steven T. Duplain. We have responded in the required timeframe.

FINANCIAL

Harry Tannehill moved, Donna Waldrom seconded, “To ratify the July bills paid by the District and approved by the Superintendent for the dates of June 4 through July 9, 2020”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Waldrom, Tannehill, Sinnott-Snooks, Pierce, LaChica, Zaker. Nay: none. The motion carried 6-0.

BUDGET UPDATE 

Steve Gress spoke to the Board regarding updates and possible changes to the District 126 Budget.

EDUCATIONAL REPORT 

 Gwaltney reported that the enrollment numbers remain the same as previous years even with the Remote Learning Plan in place. He reported to the Board there will an addition of a Kindergarten Teacher at Lane School due the larger classroom size.

NEW BUSINESS 

Steve Gress discussed with the board the new app that will be used by District 126 staff to screen for symptoms of COVID-19. Staff will certify daily and reports will be sent out to building principals and health aides. This app will help to maintain a healthy work environment for our District staff and eventually students when they return.

ADJOURNMENT 

Therese Zaker moved, seconded by Joe LaChica, "To adjourn the meeting". Upon roll call, the vote as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Zaker, LaChica, Sinnott-Snooks, Waldrom. Nay: None. The motion carried 6-0 at 7:30 p.m.
