Ashley Ramos, a candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, recently made a controversial statement linking abortion with illegal immigration. The remark was made in response to her opponent, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly's (D-Ill.), stance on abortion as the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade is observed.

“All I’m reading is Robin Kelly is willing to provide ways to reduce citizen population through the unborn, to make room for illegals who will vote for her because the people of the district are waking up,” Ramos said on X. “Every abortion is an empty crib for an illegals child and the federal funds to support them.”

Kelly reaffirmed her support for abortion rights.

"As we reflect on this 51st anniversary of Roe v Wade, the second without Roe, the need for nationwide protection of the right to abortion is critical," she said

Kelly also expressed her pride in aligning with the Pro-Choice Caucus in their efforts to safeguard reproductive freedom.

Ramos hails from Bradley and has connections in Chicago Heights due to her formative years spent in Momence. After completing her education at Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School in 2005, she pursued radiology courses at Kankakee Community College. Her professional background includes e-commerce specialization and notary licensing; she also holds a certification in CPR, according to her campaign website.

The 2nd Congressional District encompasses south suburbs of Chicago, eastern Will County, most of Kankakee County and Chicago’s far southeast side. The seat is currently occupied by U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.), who has held it since 2013 as per Ballotpedia.
