State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) recently recognized a kid-run charity.

He applauds the time and effort the kids put in to help several charitable organizations.

“Wonderful job done by these kids of Tinley Park and their ‘Hanover Kids’ Café,’” Bailey said. “I am impressed by the work they’ve done in their summer to raise money for many charitable causes. It is good to see kids getting involved in their community and helping others. Well done!”

Hanover Kids’ Café was started by a group of Tinley Park children. It ran over the course of the summer and raised $1,500 which they donated to a variety of cases including White Sox Charities, Leukemia Research Foundation, Together We Cope, a boy in Plainfield recently diagnosed with cancer and the Jaber family of Tinley Park. The group raised $500 for Jaber in three days, according to Patch.

The café was open Monday, Wednesday and Friday and offered a handwritten and hand drawn menu. The initial focus was to raise funds for the family of the slain bicyclist, 14-year-old Tinley Park resident Zain Jaber. The group donates all proceeds.

“I like to give back to the community, it just makes me feel good,” Mikey, one of the children manning the stand told Patch. “I just feel like it’s good to give back.”

Mikey added that he likes “just making the coffee, seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they donate or get their coffee. “The workers too, when they donate their tips, it makes them smile.”

The group was featured in a pitch video

“Come over to Hanover Kids’ Café,” a group of children say in unison.
