Commissioner Sean Morrison posted a series of critical comments about the media and Illinois’ motor fuel tax on his X (formerly Twitter) account on March 11, 2026.

In one post from early that morning, Morrison wrote, “Yet Another example why most in media suck I mean come on guys… you are killing yourselves … https://t.co/GFq4DIkSOg” (March 11, 2026).

Later that day, he continued his criticism with another statement: “Most on MSM simply can’t help themselves . https://t.co/8kt8YLaNuN” (March 11, 2026).

Morrison also commented on the cost of gasoline in Chicago. He stated: ” In Illinois , the cumulative motor fuel tax, is $.96 cents per gallon of gas in Chicago. This is enacted by JB Pritzker and the Democrat super majority https://t.co/h3FlG6a6vW” (March 11, 2026). The motor fuel tax in Illinois is determined by state law and local ordinances; it includes contributions from both state-level increases under Governor JB Pritzker’s administration and additional taxes imposed by local governments.

Morrison is a commissioner in Cook County, Illinois. His remarks reflect ongoing debates over media trustworthiness and taxation policy within the state. Media criticism remains common among public officials who perceive coverage as biased or unfavorable. The issue of high gas taxes has been an area of concern for many residents in Chicago and across Illinois due to its impact on household budgets.
