There have been 554,043 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cook County as of March 3, with 6,839 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (558,988 cases) and Cook County (554,043 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 7,260, while Cook County recorded 6,839 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 54,954,495, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 680,623 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,412,431 were male and 1,579,191 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 17,979, while female deaths stood at 14,907.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 20,649 whites, 6,072 African-Americans, 4,600 Hispanics, 1,020 Asians, and 545 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
