The Park Forest Historical Society will honor seven individuals at its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 29 at Freedom Hall, according to a Mar. 25 announcement.
The event recognizes residents who have made significant contributions to the community. Inductees this year include Alan Franklin, Michele Johnson, Timothy “Tim” Jones, Thomas Mick, Tracy Mick, Tushar H. Pandya, and Jennifer Whitson.
Jane Nicoll of the Historical Society said the ceremony is both meaningful and celebratory. “It’s always a warm, fuzzy event,” Nicoll said. “You get to hear the nominations read, and then the inductees come up and share a few words. It’s really about recognizing people who’ve done wonderful things for the community.”
Among those honored is Jones, a police officer who died in December after living with injuries sustained in service for ten years. His induction is seen as especially important by organizers. “He deserved to be recognized,” Nicoll said. “We wish we had done it sooner, but it’s important that he is honored.”
The Park Forest Hall of Fame was established in 1989 with Philip Klutznick as its first inductee and became an annual tradition in 1994 after several years of planning. Community members are invited each fall to submit nominations for consideration by a committee that selects honorees based on their impact on Park Forest.
Nicoll said there are now about 200 individuals included in the Hall of Fame and efforts are underway to make plaques honoring them more visible to residents. “It’s time for people to learn about it,” she said.
According to the official website, Village of Park Forest promotes community health through dedicated commissions and programs while also receiving recognition for sustainability efforts in town planning practices. The village operates under a council-manager government with leadership from a mayor and six trustees. Economic conditions are supported through collaboration, educational opportunities such as its Civic Leadership Academy address local issues, and leadership in sustainability includes support for national climate agreements.
Organizers invite all residents to join neighbors at Freedom Hall on Sunday afternoon “in honoring the achievements of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees and help celebrate the spirit and legacy of Park Forest.”
