Chicago Heights City Council approves collective bargaining agreement

Meeting 10

The Chicago Heights City Council met Jan.3 to approve a collective bargaining agreement.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

Minutes of the Regular City Council Proceedings of the City of Chicago Heights, Cook County, Illinois held Monday, January 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at 1601 Chicago Road, Chicago Heights, IL.

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Gonzalez called the regular meeting of the Chicago Heights City Council to order at 7:00 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

COMMUNICATIONS

Alderman Mosby announced that his next ward meeting would be held on February 2" at 6:00 p.m. at Barack Obama School of Leadership.

Alderman Perez announced that her next ward meeting would be held on January 23" at 7:00 p.m. at Garfield School.

Alderman Rodgers announced that her next quarterly ward meeting would be held on Tuesday, February 21' at 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln School.

Alderman Deabel announced that his next ward meeting would be held on Monday, January 23" at 7:00 p.m. at Roosevelt School.

Alderman Amadio did not have any announcements, but wished everyone a Happy New Year.

Alderman Zaranti announced that his next ward meeting would be held in coordination with Park District Commissioner Straczek om January 26that 7:00 p.m. at Commissioners Park.

Alderman Torres was absent from the meeting.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Steve Koenig, Chicago Heights Firefighter, read a letter from John Armatore, in which he expressed his extreme gratitude to firefighters and dispatchers for their professional response to a recent fire at his home.

REPORT OF THE CORPORATION COUNSEL. T. SOMER Corporation Counsel was absent.

1. MINUTES: MEETING OF DECEMBER 19, 2016

Alderman Zaranti moved, and Alderman Rodgers seconded, a motion to approve the minutes.

Ayes: Perez, Rodgers, Amadio, Zaranti Nays: Deabel

Abstain: Mosby

Absent: Torres Motion to approve carried.

2. BL LS: APPROVAL OF SECOND RUN OF DECEMBER 2016,

Alderman Zaranti moved, and Alderman Amadio seconded, a motion to approve the bills.

Ayes: Mosby, Perez, Rodgers, Deabel, Amadio, Zaranti Nays: none

Abstain: none

Absent: Torres

Motion to approve carried.

3. RESOLUTION 2016. 90 : APPROVING A COLLECTIVE

BARGANING AGREEMENT WITH IAFF LOCAL 711 FIREFIGHTERS.

Alderman Mosby moved, and Alderman Rodgers seconded, a motion to approve the resolution.

Ayes: Mosby, Perez, Rodgers, Deabel, Amadio, Zaranti Nays: mone

Abstain: none

Absent: Torres

Motion to approve carried.

Mayor Gonzalez referred to a memorandum given to the city council summarizing the terms of the agreement. The city council previously discussed the terms in an executive session. The council had brief comments commending the outcome of the agreement.

4. RESOLUTION #2O16- 91 : APPROVING AN APPLICATION FOR A

COOK COUNTY CLASS 8 TAX CLASSIETCATIONSUBMITTEDBY VEER PETRO, INC, FOR THE NEW COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION AT 300 DIXIE HIGHWAY. (Shell Gas Station)

Alderman Amadio moved, and Alderman Rodgers seconded, a motion to approve the resolution.

Ayes: Mosby, Perez, Rodgers, Deabel, Amadio, Zaranti Nays: none

Abstain: none

Absent: Torres

Motion to approve carried.

Jack Hynes, Economic Development Director, provided a background on the project. Attorney for the business owner was present to answer questions for the council. A discussion followed on the possible landscaping for the business site.

MOTION TO ENTER INTOEXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS PERSONNEL ISSUES, COLLECTIVE BARGAINING MATTERS, USE OF CITY OWNED LAND AND THREATENED OR PENDING LTIGATION.

At 7:23 p.m. Alderman Rodgers moved, and Alderman Mosby seconded, a motion to enter into executive session.

Ayes: Mosby, Perez, Rodgers, Deabel, Amadio, Zaranti Nays: none

Abstain: none

Absent: Torres

Motion carried,

At 7:44 p.m. Alderman Mosby moved, and Alderman Rodgers seconded, a motion to return to regular session.

Ayes: Mosby, Perez, Rodgers, Deabel, Amadio, Zaranti Nays: none

Abstaim: none

Absent: Torres

Motion carried.
