The Illinois State Board of Elections reports Straniero, a Democrat, still managed to donate $600 a month earlier, on Dec. 16, 2016 to the political campaign committee of Bremen Township Supervisor Maggie Crotty.
Crotty and Straniero, who was first elected to the board in 2005, are running on the same ticket for re-election this April 4.
Straniero is being challenged by James Talbot of Crestwood, Oak Forest Park District Commissioner Charles Wolf, former Stagg H.S. teacher Laura Brown of Tinley Park and Village of Robbins Trustee David Bryant.
Township Trustees earn $4,800 per year-- $200 per meeting, to attend 24 meetings per year.
According to Blockshopper.com, which collects and publishes property records, Straniero’s total 2015 property tax bill was $6,168.
Property taxes are a major issue in Bremen Township.
The Cook County Assessor estimates her 1,431 split-level is worth $166,140, meaning Straniero’s effective property tax rate is 3.7 percent. That’s 4.2 times the average property tax rate in Indiana (0.88 percent), where a home of the same value would have a tax bill of $1,462.
She is executive director of Together We Cope, a non-profit, and previously served on the Arbor Park District 145 School Board with Crotty, their first elective position.
