Tinley Park has elected a new mayor for the first time in 36 years. It also has a new village clerk and three new village trustees, all thanks to the Concerned Citizens for Tinley Park (CCTP) slate.
First-term Trustee Jacob Vandenberg swept incumbent Mayor Dave Seaman out of office in a 5,331 to 3,399 victory. Seaman was appointed by the board after former Mayor Ed Zabrocki retired in 2015.
The slate's candidates ran on a platform of accountability, transparency and fiscal responsibility.
“People are tired of career politicians using their offices to award no one but themselves and their friends,” Vandenberg told the South Cook News before the election. “There’s been pay-to-play contracts awarded with no public input. I don’t want to subject the residents to that kind of thing any longer.”
Incumbent Village Clerk Patrick Rea lost his seat to CCTP candidate Kristin Thirion by more than 1,700 votes, while the slate's Cynthia Berg, William Brady and Michael Glotzon won trustee seats.
