Homewood FD responds to 62 fires in 2016

Homewood Fire Department responded to 269 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Homewood included 62 fires - 40 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 13 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $260,170 in fire loss - or about $4,196 per fire.

The department also received 207 false calls, including five malicious calls and 202 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and two were injured in non fire-related incidents.
