Burbank FD responds to 108 fires in 2016

Burbank Fire Department responded to 515 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Burbank included 108 fires - 61 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 31 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $833,150 in fire loss - or about $7,714 per fire.

The department also received 407 false calls, including four malicious calls and 403 other false calls.

The calls resulted in six civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Burbank Fire, which has 32 active employees and 24 retired or inactive employees, was $943,301 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $8,734 for every fire in 2016.
