Evergreen Park FD responds to 140 fires in 2016

Evergreen Park Fire Department responded to 400 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Evergreen Park included 140 fires - 107 structure fires, 17 vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,672,000 in fire loss - or about $11,943 per fire.

The department also received 260 false calls, including 10 malicious calls and 250 other false calls.

Three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Evergreen Park Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has one active employee and four retired or inactive employees, was $222,459 in debt as of October 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,589 for every fire in 2016.
