Flossmoor FD responds to 77 fires in 2016

Flossmoor Fire Department responded to 286 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Flossmoor included 77 fires - 59 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $804,400 in fire loss - or about $10,447 per fire.

The department also received 209 false calls, including three malicious calls and 206 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Flossmoor Fire, which has three active employees and three retired or inactive employees, was $232,753 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $3,023 for every fire in 2016.
