Harvey FD responds to 199 fires in 2016

Harvey Fire Department responded to 751 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Harvey included 199 fires - 92 structure fires, 45 vehicle fires and 56 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,150,872 in fire loss - or about $10,808 per fire.

The department also received 552 false calls, including 12 malicious calls and 540 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Harvey Fire, which has 49 active employees and 71 retired or inactive employees, was $2,218,488 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $11,148 for every fire in 2016.
