South Chicago Heights FD responds to 167 fires in 2016

South Chicago Heights Fire Department responded to 368 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in South Chicago Heights included 167 fires - 158 structure fires, two vehicle fires and seven other fires.

In all, the department saw $32,381 in fire loss - or about $194 per fire.

The department also received 201 false calls, including two malicious calls and 199 other false calls.

The South Chicago Heights Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has active employee and one retired or inactive employee, was $23,308 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $140 for every fire in 2016.
