Summit FD responds to 46 fires in 2016

Summit Fire Department responded to 133 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Summit included 46 fires - 17 structure fires, 15 vehicle fires and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $132,400 in fire loss - or about $2,878 per fire.

The department also received 87 false calls, including one malicious call and 86 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.
