Statewide test results: 97 percent of Creative Communications students failed math

Grade school 06

About 3 percent of Creative Communications Academy students passed annual math assessments in 2017 and nearly all of students failed, according to a South Cook News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Creative Communications Academy math scores, about 3 percent met expectations and none exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 16 percent approached expectations, while 32 percent partially met expectations and 50 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Creative Communications Academy, which enrolled 207 students in 2017, fell below state averages.

Statewide, 31 percent of students passed the test and 69 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
