About 49 percent of Worth Junior High School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 51 percent of students failed, according to a South Cook News analysis of
the latest Illinois schools report card.
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.
According to Worth Junior High School English language scores, about 42 percent met expectations and 7 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.
Another 30 percent approached expectations, while 14 percent partially met expectations and 7 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.
Test results at Worth Junior High School, which enrolled 375 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.
Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.
Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
