Republican Tom Toolis, a lawyer from Frankfort, is challenging Rep. Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) in the 80th District in November's general election.
"If elected, I will fight for lower taxes, prudent state spending and incentives for small business to create jobs and hire and retain employees," Toolis wrote on his campaign website. "No state has ever taxed its way into prosperity. ... The time is now to find a better way for Illinois to prosper."
Toolis is a certified public accountant and a lawyer practicing bankruptcy, corporate law and real estate law at Frankfort Law Group.

DeLuca has been in office since 2009. He was part of a committee of representatives that passed legislation to clean up the government following the scandals in the administrations of former Governors George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich.
Last year, DeLuca urged Gov. Bruce Rauner to sign the Debt Transparency Measure that would allow "the Governor’s Office, legislators, the media and most importantly the taxpayers of Illinois a much clearer picture of the state’s finances," according to a statement written by DeLuca.
