North Palos FPD responds to 158 fires in 2017

North Palos Fire Protection District responded to 611 calls in 2017 - 4.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in North Palos included 158 fires - 80 structure fires, 25 vehicle fires and 53 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,305,511 in fire loss - or about $14,592 per fire.

The department also received 452 false calls, including 12 malicious calls and 440 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries and two civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The North Palos Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $8,763,594 in 2016.

The North Palos FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 32 active employees and 14 retired or inactive employees, was $271,799 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,788 for every fire in 2016.
