Roberts Park FPD responds to 150 fires in 2017

Roberts Park Fire Protection District responded to 527 calls in 2017 - 9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Roberts Park included 150 fires - 89 structure fires, 30 vehicle fires and 31 other fires. The fire department also responded to 15 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $725,595 in fire loss - or about $4,837 per fire.

The department also received 362 false calls, including 47 malicious calls and 315 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and nine were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Roberts Park Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $5,138,891 in 2017.

The Roberts Park FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 16 active employees and 21 retired or inactive employees, was $1,008,517 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $7,361 for every fire in 2016.
