NBA star Wade stuck with Matteson home

NBA star and Robbins native Dwyane Wade has paid nearly $125,000 in property taxes over 12 years on a Matteson home he is trying to sell for barely half what he paid for it.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 5751 Amherst Place in Matteson's Newbury Estates subdivision is currently listed for $269,000.

Wade paid $390,000 for the home in 2006, or $488,000 in 2018 dollars. The 2018 property taxes are $12,873, an effective property tax rate of 4.8 percent at Wade's asking price.

The Cook County Assessor currently values Wade's property at $245,880, an effective property tax rate of 5.2 percent.

According to Blockshopper.com, the median sale price in Matteson between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2018 was $143,800. The median property tax bill was $5,387, or 3.75 percent of the median home value.

Wade, 36, played high school basketball at H.L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn in 2000-2001 before attending Marquette University, where he was an All-American. He's a 12-time NBA All Star who has played 15 years with the Bulls, Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers.
