Rich Township High School District 227 students suspended, expelled 705 times in a single school year

Rich Township High School District 227 reported one expulsions and 704 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 705 students during the year. That equates to 23.1 percent of the 3,057 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 290 in-school suspensions, 194 were given to boys and 96 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 274 incidents. There were 12 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 249 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 414 out-of-school suspensions, 247 were given to boys and 167 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 265 incidents. There were 92 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 130 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
