Country Club Hills School District 160 students suspended 215 times in a single school year

Country Club Hills School District 160 reported 215 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred five students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 215 students during the year. That equates to 17.9 percent of the 1,203 students enrolled.

Of the 129 in-school suspensions, 77 were given to boys and 52 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 115 incidents. There were 13 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 110 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 86 out-of-school suspensions, 59 were given to boys and 27 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 38 incidents. There were 30 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 32 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
