Orland School District 135 students suspended 24 times in a single school year

Orland School District 135 reported 24 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 24 students during the year. That equates to 0.5 percent of the 5,040 students enrolled.

Of the 24 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence that caused physical injury. The category includes 12 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence without physical injury. For 13 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
