Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124 students suspended 53 times in a single school year

Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124 reported 53 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 53 students during the year. That equates to 2.9 percent of the 1,847 students enrolled.

Of the 28 in-school suspensions, 18 were given to boys and 10 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 14 incidents. There were 11 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 23 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 25 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 10 incidents. There were nine incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 12 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
