Summit School District 104 students suspended 48 times in a single school year

Summit School District 104 reported 48 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 48 students during the year. That equates to 2.6 percent of the 1,839 students enrolled.

Of the 37 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 24 incidents. There were nine incidents of violence without physical injury. For 34 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 11 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 10 incidents. There were one incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 11 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
