Little Company Of Mary Hospital issued the following announcement on Dec. 13.

Formerly known as Sister M. Bernard, Sister Sharon Ann Walsh was born in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and entered the Little Company of Mary Congregation on September 24, 1956. She graduated from the Little Company of Mary School of Nursing and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa. She also completed studies in spirituality and theology at the Jesuit School of Theology in California, University of Notre Dame and Oblate School of Theology in Texas.

Sister Sharon Ann was missioned at the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California for 15 years – where she assisted with the opening of an orthopedic unit in addition to roles in both nursing and in health education. Additionally, she worked with young novices in religious formation who also would soon become LCM Sisters. In 1985, she was appointed to the role of Provincial Leader of the American Province of the Little Company of Mary Sisters and relocated to Evergreen Park.

In 1993, she was elected to the congregational leadership team and appointed to the role of Assistant Congregational Leader in London, England, where she remained for the next six years.

“The true privilege during my time in this special role was the opportunity I had to meet the Sisters in the LCM Provinces around the world and live with them in community and experience some time with them in ministry,” said Sister Sharon Ann. “And while in Albania, I was able to be a part of the blessing and opening of brand new clinic. It’s both humbling and inspiring to see what great works can be accomplished from small beginnings when working together for the greater good.”

Upon returning home to the United States, Sister Sharon Ann was welcomed to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, IL – where she worked as a Chaplain in the Pastoral Care Department before becoming a Provincial Councilor of the American Province. Then in 2014, she accepted the role of Provincial Leader for the American Province of the Little Company of Mary Sisters, a role in which she served until October of this year.

Today, Sister Sharon Ann maintains various Hospital leadership roles as well. Since 2005, she has served on both the Board of Directors for Memorial Hospital in Jasper, IN, and the Board of Directors for Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, IL. In 2014, Sister Sharon Ann was appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, a position in which continues to hold today.

“Venerable Mary Potter always envisioned that the Little Company of Mary Sisters would remain a relatively small congregation, but that the Sisters would be joined by others – The Greater Company of Mary,” explained Sister Sharon Ann. “Today, the Little Company and the Greater Company continue to partner in this healing ministry and share the legacy and continue the mission of the Venerable Mary Potter.”
