City of Hometown City Council met Oct. 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Kevin Casey on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 8:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Reynolds

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Zak, Kurysz,

Smith, Touchie, Banasiak, Barnhouse, Grochowski, Walsh, Reynolds and Finnegan.

Also present: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney

Press: Kelly White, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal October 9, 2018

Moved by Alderman Barnhouse seconded by Alderman Zak to approve as published the Journal of October 9, 2018 regular City Council Meeting.

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (8) Aldermen Zak, Grochowski, Barnhouse, Smith, Touchie, Banasiak, Walsh and Kurysz

NAYS: (0)

ABSTENSION: (2) Aldermen Reynolds and Finnegan

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor

Mayor Casey stated he is making some changes, he wants to switch up the committee’s and he asked if anyone has a preference to see him before the next meeting. Tonight he said he is making two changes, he is assigning the HFPD Liaison to Alderman Banasiak and the Park Board Liaison to Alderman Smith. Mayor Casey thanked everyone that worked the Fall Fest, especially Aldermen Kurysz and Alderman Barnhouse, they both stayed all day. Mayor Casey thanked the Park Board for all of their work, it was a nice event that was well attended. The Zoolights is December 1, 2018. The free bus tickets are available at City Hall. Trick or Treat hours are 2-6 pm and everyone please vote on November 6.

Office of the City Clerk:

City Clerk Hacker reported earlier in the day she was downtown at a mandatory CDBG meeting for the grant we received. There was 60 municipalities that applied for funds and we were one of only 30 that will receive funds. We can thank Mayor Casey for his hard work with the County, especially Commissioner Daley.

In response to Alderman Grochowski asking at the last meeting about new residents vehicle stickers, Clerk Hacker reported of all the new residents since January 2018 we found 4 with no stickers, we will pass this along to the PD and if these residents have vehicles they will receive tickets.

Office of the Treasurer:

City Treasurer Salvatore Roti, absent.

REPORTS FROM CITY APPOINTED OFFICIAL

City Attorney: Michael Cainkar had no report.

Police: Louis Dominguez, Chief, not present. Mayor Casey stated the Police Department is as different as night and day now. There were some car break-ins and we already have a suspect. Staffing is up and scheduling problems no longer exists.

Public Works: Mark Trlak, Director, not present.

Building: James Forbes, Commissioner, not present.

Public Health & Safety: Michael Ringbauer, Director, not present.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Accounts Payable and Payroll October 23, 2018

Moved by Alderman Touchie seconded by Alderman Banasiak to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $15,911.34 and payroll vouchers in the amount of $51,967.77 for a total expenditure of $67,879.11.

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (10) Aldermen Zak, Reynolds, Finnegan, Barnhouse, Smith, Touchie, Banasiak, Grochowski, Walsh and Kurysz

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Robert Reynolds Chairman reported they will meet Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Mr. Fritz spoke to the City Council about his proposed 6 foot fence.

Alderman Brian Barnhouse moved to accept the recommendation of the Zoning Board of Appeals acting as the Building Board of Appeals to allow the request of Bill Fritz of 4635 West 88th Place his fence permit to erect a 6 ft. fence on his driveway from the garage to the front of the house. The Vote was 4 Ayes 1 Nay

Upon roll call the vote was:

YES: (10) Aldermen Zak, Reynolds, Finnegan, Barnhouse, Smith, Touchie, Banasiak, Grochowski, Walsh and Kurysz

Alderman Brian Barnhouse, Chairman notified the City Council that the Zoning Board of Appeals approved the request of Todd & Jackie Sternberg of 4542 West 87th Place to build a 24x22 garage with a vote of 5 Ayes 0 Nays.

LICENSE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman had no report.

CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Robert Reynolds, Chairman had no report.

INSURANCE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman had no report.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE:

Cook County Agreement: Alderman Luci Kurysz Chairman moved, seconded by Alderman Grochowski to allow the Mayor and City Clerk to sign the Intergovernmental Agreement between the Cook County Department of Public Health and the City of Hometown for the provision of Environmental Health Inspectional Services for the period of December 1, 2018 through November 30, 2019.

Upon roll call the vote was:

YES: (10) Aldermen Zak, Reynolds, Finnegan, Barnhouse, Smith, Touchie, Banasiak, Grochowski, Walsh and Kurysz

Library: Alderman Grochowski Liaison reported they will be meeting next Wednesday.

Fire Department: Alderman Daniel Walsh, Liaison had no report.

Personnel Review: Mayor Kevin Casey, Chairman had no report.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS RESOLUTIONS, ORDERS AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN

SPECIAL EVENTS: Alderman Grochowski reported the breakfast with Santa will be held on December 15th at OLL. Details to follow.

HEALTH, WELFARE & COMMUNITY EVENTS: Alderman Grochowski reported on several upcoming activities.

NEW BUSINESS: Alderman Finnegan reported his son Jack, a Brother Rice student was selected for the All-State Soccer Team.
