Market Watch: Hruskas lose over $228,000 on sale of Flossmoor home

Illinois' highest-in-the-nation property taxes are eroding home equity and depressing home values across the state. This report is part of a SYHN News Service series on recent home sales that demonstrate the consequences.

The home: 2455 Brookwood Drive, Flossmoor

The 5,225-square-foot home has 6 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. It features quartz countertops in the kitchen and master bath, and brand new appliances.

The seller: Jodi D. and Charles J. Hruska III

The couple own Hruska Insurance Center Inc., in Mokena. 

The purchase: In July 2002, the Hruskas paid $490,000 for the home, or roughly $683,532 in today's dollars. 

The sale: According to Zillow, they sold the home for $455,000 on Jan. 6, or an estimated $228,532 less than the original purchase price, in today's dollars.

The Hruskas originally listed the home for $479,900 in September 2018. 

The property taxes: The Hruskas paid $257,089 in property taxes from 2002 to 2017, or approximately 57 percent of the sale price.
