Village of Flossmoor issued the following announcement on Feb. 6.
During the February 4 Board of Trustees meeting, Mayor Paul Braun issued the following proclamation to declare the month of February 2019 as "Flossmoor Black History Month." Keep an eye out for some special stories coming your way soon!
VILLAGE OF FLOSSMOOR PROCLAMATION
Dated this 4th day of February 2019
WHEREAS, Flossmoor is a community steeped in history and energized by diversity and inclusion in all its forms; and
WHEREAS, we are grateful for the strength of our local economy and the opportunity to support local business owners and their employees; and
WHEREAS, Flossmoor’s business community is enriched by African-American entrepreneurs, whose businesses provide unique, small-town service that makes Flossmoor a special place; and
WHEREAS, as we commemorate Black History Month, it is important to recognize and celebrate the black business community’s long history of entrepreneurship, ingenuity and perseverance against all odds; and
WHEREAS, this month, we are taking time to recognize both our current businesses and African-Americans who came before us to make history in business; and
WHEREAS, President Gerald Ford formally recognized Black History Month in February 1976, encouraging America to take time to learn about the achievements and contributions of African-Americans to our American landscape;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul S. Braun, Mayor of Flossmoor, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2019 as: “Flossmoor Black History Month”
