The price of local government in 2017: Village of Lansing

The Village of Lansing budget was $65.19 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $6,187 per household.

That's an increase of 1.9 percent from 2016, when the village spent $63.96 million, or $6,071 per household.

Lansing has 10,536 households and a population of 28,086.

Since 2001, the Village of Lansing budget has grown by 49.4 percent, from $43.62 million. The village population has fallen 1.9 percent over the same period, from 28,640.

Salaries accounted for 20.8 percent of village spending in 2017. Lansing property taxpayers paid $13.55 million for 168 full-time employees and 92 part-time employees.

In 2001, the village had 188 full-time employees and 161 part-time employees, and spent $13.60 million.
