The price of local government in 2017: City of Palos Heights

The City of Palos Heights budget was $28.94 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $5,221 per household.

That's a decrease of 11.4 percent from 2016, when the city spent $32.68 million, or $5,896 per household.

Palos Heights has 5,543 households and a population of 12,515.

Since 2001, the City of Palos Heights budget has grown by 66.3 percent, from $17.41 million. The city population has grown 4.3 percent over the same period, from 12,000.

Salaries accounted for 24.4 percent of city spending in 2017. Palos Heights property taxpayers paid $7.08 million for 68 full-time employees and 305 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 60 full-time employees and 200 part-time employees, and spent $5.83 million.
