Village of Evergreen Park issued the following announcement on July 1.
Dennis L. Duffy, Commissioner and Director of the Evergreen Park Recreation Department, has retired after forty-plus years.
Mr. Duffy, a former teacher at Brother Rice High School (and graduate of the same) has served as Recreation Department Director since 1980, when he took the position after the passing of his father, Martin Duffy (Director from 1970-1980, for whom Duffy Park is named).
“Duff” has served the Village of Evergreen Park in so many different venues. He was, as the children fondly recall him, the Principal of the Preschool. He created and served many of the Rec Department events with incredible enthusiasm, including Punt-Pass-And-Kick, the Track Meets, Halloween and Easter Happenings, and began the Santa Visits for the families of Evergreen Park.
Under his guidance, our Day In The Park celebrated its 31st year! Mr. Duffy will serve as the Grand Marshal of this year’s Independence Day Parade (our 51st!), for which he has served as Parade Chairman for so many years. Please come and celebrate and wish him and his wife Nancy good luck on their new adventures in life.
We will miss him and his unique humor, but so happy for him to enjoy his golfing, traveling and his beautiful grandchildren. The Parade kicks off at 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 3.
