Q1 2019 Recap: Parolees in Cook County convicted of homicide

There were 64 offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in Cook County during the first quarter of 2019, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the South Cook News.

The data shows that 57 men and seven women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, one was a veteran, and the median age was 42. The youngest parolee was a 22-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 66-year-old man sentenced in 1971.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Miles Barnes. He was convicted in 1983 when he was 28 years old. He is now 63.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of homicide were paroled during the first quarter of 2019 in each Illinois county.
