City of Chicago Heights City Council met Aug. 7.

Mayor Gonzalez called the regular meeting of the Chicago Heights City Council to order at 6:00 p.m.

COMMUNICATIONS
Alderman Smith announced that her first ward meeting was held on Monday, August 5. Her next ward meeting date was to be announced.
Alderman Perez announced that her next ward meeting would be held on Monday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Garfield School,
Alderman Rodgers announced that her next ward meeting would be held on Thursday, September 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Chicago Heights Park District.
Alderman Baikauskas announced that his next ward meeting would be held on Monday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Roosevelt School.
Alderman Brassea announced that his next ward meeting would be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Assembly Church.
Alderman Zaranti announced his next ward meeting would be held in coordination with Park District Commissioner Straczek on Thursday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Commissioners Park.
Alderman Merrick announced her next ward meeting would be held on Friday, August 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Chicago Heights Park District.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Springer reported to the city council that the City needed to update its aging fire truck equipment. Chief Springer had already looked at some fire equipment, and would research costs, and purchase and lease options. Mayor Gonzalez stated that a recommendation and actual costs should be forthcoming in a couple of weeks. The council discussed the matter.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Alma Hart addressed the city council asking for more police presence near her home.
REPORT OF CHIEF OF STAFF - KAREN ZERANTE
COS Zerante gave the council preliminary information on the 2020 Census, and said that more definitive information would available later, COS Zerante announced that the City was again chosen to participate in the National Rebuilding Day with Rebuilding Together, a non-profit organization that did free home repairs for residents in collaboration with corporate and building trades sponsors. Applications were available in the Mayor's Office.

3. RESOLUTION #2019-_54_ : APPROVING THE CLOSURE OF CERTAIN STATE ROADWAYS FOR CERTAIN CIVIC EVENTS.
Alderman Perez moved, and Alderman Rodgers seconded, a motion to approve the resolution.

COS Zerante explained that the road closure was for the St. Paul Catholic Church annual Mexican Independence Day Parade on Chicago Road. The municipal resolution would be submitted to IDOT for a road closure permit.
4. RESOLUTION #2019- 55 : APPROVING MFT EXPENDITURES FOR STREET MAINTENANCE
SERVICES (Project # 19-00000-00-GM).
Alderman Zaranti moved, and Alderman Merrick seconded, a motion to approve the resolution.

Mayor Gonzalez explained that the motor fuel tax resolution was a closeout for fiscal year ending April 30, 2019 that IDOT required.
5. RESOLUTION #2019- 56 : APPROVING MFT EXPENDITURES FOR STREET MAINTENANCE SERVICES (Project #20-00000-00-GM).
Alderman Rodgers moved, and Alderman Perez seconded, a motion to approve the resolution.

Motion to approve carried.
Mayor Gonzalez explained that the motor fuel tax resolution opened up the new fiscal year May
1, 2019/2020, and that the expenditure statement was based on estimated revenues and eligible IDOT expenditures.
MOTION TO ENTER EXECUTIVE (CLOSED) SESSION TO DISCUSS PENDING LITIGATION, PERSONNEL ISSUES, OR USE AND DISPOSITION OF CITY OWNED LAND. (IF NECESSARY).
Corporation Counsel reported that he had polled the aldermen, who felt that they were able to take action on agenda item #6 without going into executive session.
6. RESOLUTION #2019 - _57_: APPROVING THE SETTLEMENT OF CERTAIN CIVIL LITIGATION AS PRESENTED FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION OF THIS DATE. (12 WC 29414).
Alderman Rodgers moved, and Alderman Zaranti seconded, a motion to approve the resolution.
