Bremen Community High School District 228 Board of Education met July 16.

1 President Resler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

3 Mr. Whitcomb moved to approve the regular and closed session minutes of June 18, 2019. Mrs. Gleason seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

Mr. Canning moved to approve the committee of the whole minutes of July 9, 2019. Mrs. Gleason seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

4 Mrs. Resler opened the floor to the public for comments.
There being no comments, Mrs. Resler closed the floor to the public.
5 Dr. Kendall reported the following:
Freedom of Information
Since the last regular Board meeting, we have not received any Freedom of Information Act requests.
Superintendent’s Report
We are preparing to host our open houses as well as the start of school in August.
6 Mrs. Gleason reported that she attended the trustee meeting at the treasurer’s office. There were two new members of the treasurer’s board in attendance, including Michael Humphrey from District 160. The treasurer reported his office budget is $62,000 under budget, and it will be reflected in the payments due to each district next year. Also, the interest earnings are slightly ahead of budget expectations. The next meeting is scheduled for October 1st.
Mr. Johnson stated he feels the Board should be a part of negotiations with the teachers. He cannot be proactive to the public without seeing it first-hand.
Mr. Canning stated district personnel is responsible for representing the Board and reporting bargaining information to the Board so they can make decisions. He personally would not like to participate in negotiations.
Mr. Johnson asked to refer to the Board meeting of July 8, 2015.
Mrs. Gleason stated the rules were agreed to prior to the beginning of negotiations and cannot be changed during the process. If this was something to consider, it should have been brought up at that time.
