Bremen Community High School District 228 Board of Education met June 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Resler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

2 Board of Education

Present: Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler 

Absent: None

Central Office & Principals

Present: Dr. Kendall, Dr. Williams, Dr. Goggins, Mrs. Morrison, Mr. Boswell, Mrs. Giglio-Byczek, Mr. Masterson, Mrs. Taylor, Dr. Kibelkis, Dr. Nolan, Mr. Meany, Mr. Dunne 

Absent: Dr. Simms, Dr. Sikora

3 Mrs. Gleason moved to approve the regular session minutes of May 21, 2019. Mr. Whitcomb seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Whitcomb, Mr. Canning, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mrs. Resler

Nays: None

Mr. Canning moved to approve the Committee of the Whole, regular and closed minutes of June 4, 2019. Mrs. Gleason seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated: 

Ayes: Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler 

Nays: None

Abstain: Ms. Stearns

4 Mrs. Resler opened the floor to the public for comments. There being no comments,

Mrs. Resler closed the floor.

5 Dr. Kendall reported the following:

Freedom of Information Act Requests

 Major Robert Stevenson, Recruiting Station Chicago, requested updated senior (graduating class of 2019) and junior (graduating class of 2020) "directory information" as defined in 105 ILCS 5/34-18. This request has been completed.

 Inspector Michael Brown, Open Books USA, requested a copy of all private transportation service agreements or RFP documents for all vendors providing transportation services to the Bremen High School District 228, and any yearly or contractual expenditure for private transportation services. This request has been completed.

 Bob Flynn, Local 17 Insulators, requested verification of the most updated email address of the FOIA officer. This request has been completed.

 David Arreola, Inter-State studio and Publishing, requested a copy of the documents containing the following information: Current school portrait contract (Including end of contract date), pricing and other benefits offered by vendor to secure the service contract, and bid specifications used by the school district during the last request for proposal. This request has been completed.

Superintendent’s Report

 Summer Construction update: Tinley Park.

 Field House – flooring will be installed next week. Gym equipment, divider curtains are currently being installed.

 Fitness Center – flooring complete and equipment will be installed by the end of the week. Band Room – Demolition and abatement is complete. The space will be a larger band room with instrument/uniform storage.

 Family & Consumer Science Room – Demolition is complete; mechanical, electrical, plumbing work has begun, and the cabinetry has been ordered.

 Old Fitness Room - Abatement was completed today, and we are waiting for clearance from the County. Remodel will begin immediately.

Oak Forest.

 Field House – Flooring is 90% complete.

 Fitness Center – Flooring will start tomorrow and equipment will be installed next week.

 Classroom prepped for flooring.

 Old Fitness Room – Demolition and masonry is complete, and the mechanical and electrical is beginning for the remodel into a dance studio.

Bremen.

 Field House – flooring is currently being installed.

 Fitness Center – flooring and equipment installation is complete. Classrooms are prepped flooring will be installed next week.

 Old Fitness Room – Demolition is complete to begin remodeling into a teacher's lounge and classroom, with storage for tennis.

Hillcrest.

 Field House – flooring is scheduled to begin by the end of this week.

 Fitness Center – flooring and equipment has been installed and miscellaneous work is being completed.

 Old Fitness Room - Fencing has been demolished and flooring removed to begin remodel into a new batting cage area with new lighting.

 Exterior site work, which is sensitive to weather, is underway.

1 Mr. Whitcomb stated he attended the New Board Member workshops, provided by IASB. He enjoyed meeting other Board members from around the state and looks forward to meeting others and learning more.

Mrs. Resler read a statement regarding Board behavior during the bargaining process. (attached to the minutes)

2 5.1 – Bills, Addendum to Bills, Payroll, and CDS Bills. Mr. Whitcomb moved to approve item 5.1. Mrs. Gleason seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

5.2 – School Security Contract FY 20 - Prudential Security. Mrs. Gleason moved to approve item 5.2. Mr. Canning seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

5.3 – Transportation Contract Renewal FY 20 - Illinois School Bus & Alpha School Bus. Mr. Canning moved to approve item 5.3. Mrs. Gleason seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:
