City of Hometown City Council met June 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Kevin Casey on Tuesday, June 25 2019 at 8:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Kurysz, Smith, Zak, Reynolds, Finnegan and Grochowski.

Absent: Aldermen Banasiak, Walsh, Barnhouse and Touchie. Also present: Elizabeth Attard, City Attorney

Press: Kelly White, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal June 11, 2019

Moved by Alderman Kurysz seconded by Alderman Smith to approve as published the Journal of June 11, 2019 regular City Council Meeting.

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (6) Aldermen Kurysz, Smith, Zak, Reynolds, Finnegan and Grochowski. 

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (4) Aldermen Banasiak, Walsh, Barnhouse and Touchie. 

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor

Mayor Casey stated he was informed the Shopping Center is in foreclosure. The bank has talked to all the tenants, this could be good for the Shopping Center, breath some new life into it. The property is zoned commercial and will stay commercial so please do not believe any of the rumors out there regarding what will happen with the property. The Mayor, Chief Dominguez and Liaison Banasiak met with Chief Hojek, Deputy Mc Geever and Trustee Reinheimer to hammer out the differences between us. It was a good meeting, both sides understood each other and we moved forward. We agreed to have the attorney write up a one year agreement for 1 year of dispatching that will be funded by the City of Hometown renewable annually upon review. The HFPD agreed to be more active in the community. Chief Hojeck mentioned he will be retiring on or around May 1, 2019. There was discussion on the dispatching issue. There has been movement on the Off-Track betting and a pending sale of Pizza Plus. Mayor Casey congratulated the VFW on a great event Saturday. He was unable to attend due to a commitment to the Relay for Life event. Chief Dominguez brought his dog to both events and did an explosives search demonstration.

Office of the City Clerk:

City Clerk Hacker reported vehicle sticker sales are going strong.

Office of the Treasurer:

City Treasurer Salvatore Roti absent.

City Attorney: Elizabeth Attard had no report.

Police: Louis Dominguez, Chief, not present.

Public Works: Mark Trlak, Director, not present.

Building: James Forbes, Commissioner, was not present.

Public Health & Safety: Michael Ringbauer, Director, was not present.

REPORTS FROM STANDING COMMITTEES

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Accounts Payable and Payroll June 25, 2019

Moved by Alderman Reynolds seconded by Alderman Finnegan to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $95,266.76 and payroll vouchers in the

amount of $58,997.38 for a total expenditure of $154,264.14.

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (6) Aldermen Kurysz, Smith, Zak, Reynolds, Finnegan and Grochowski. 

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (4) Aldermen Banasiak, Walsh, Barnhouse and Touchie.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

STREETS, SIDEWALKS AND MUNICIPAL BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Glen Zak, Chairman had no report.

WATER AND SEWER COMMITTEE

Alderman Daniel Walsh, Chairman Absent. Alderman Grochowski reported the City of Hometown Ordinance No. 3-1989 provides for passing the Chicago Water and Sewer increase onto the residents of Hometown. The City of Chicago increased the water rate as of June 1, 2019. The current water charge per 665 cubic feet is $34.79, with the City of Chicago increase of.82% it will bring the

new charge for 665 cubic feet to $35.08. So the minimum water bill will now be $59.46 You will see this increase on the July bill, due in August which is for June usage.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Robert Smith Chairman reported they will meet next week.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Brian Barnhouse absent.

LICENSE COMMITTEE:

per month.

Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman reminded residents that Vehicle Stickers and Animal Tags are on sale until June 28 at the regular price, the price doubles after that.

CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Robert Reynolds, Chairman had no report.

INSURANCE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman absent.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE:

Alderman Luci Kurysz, Chairman had no report.

POLICE COMMITTEE

Dispatch Agreement: Aldermen Frank Finnegan

Library: Alderman Grochowski, Liaison reported the Summer Reading Program will be June 10 to August 10, adults and children welcome to participate. There will be a Book Sale June 21st.

Legislation: Alderman Spencer Touchie, Chairman

Fire Department: Alderman Rick Banasiak, Liaison

Personnel Review: Mayor Kevin Casey, Chairman had no report.
