A team of WGN-TV News reporters are claiming they were recently ejected from a Rich Township High School District 227 public meeting held to debate the fate of Rich East High School.

WGN reporter Tom Nevogan posted to Twitter about the Sept. 17 episode, writing that "Olympia Fields Police have ejected WGN News from a public meeting inside a public school. A first. Aggressive police officer now playing dumb as I explain the, uh, law.”

The school board is now debating a proposal that would result in the closure of Rich East High School, leading to students being bused to Lincoln Way North High School.

Many local residents had requested that reporters be on hand for the meeting because of what some insist is a lack of trust in the school board. The Open Meetings Act requires members of the public and the press be allowed into meetings determining public business, and reporters were ultimately allowed back into the District 227 meeting.
