City of Chicago Heights City Council met Oct. 2.

Mayor Gonzalez called the regular meeting of the Chicago Heights City Council to order at 6:00 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
COMMUNICATIONS
Alderman Smith announced that her next ward meeting would be held on Monday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Barack Obama School. She stated that she hosted a neighborhood clean-up event on September 14th, and that there would be another one the coming Saturday.
Alderman Perez was absent.
Alderman Rodgers was absent.
Alderman Baikauskas announced that his next ward meeting would be held on Monday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m, at Roosevelt School,
Alderman Brassea announced that his next ward meeting would be held on October 23 at 7:00 p.m, at Calvary Assembly Church.
Alderman Zaranti announced that his next ward meeting would be held in coordination with Park District Commissioner Straczek on October 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Commissioners Park.
Alderman Merrick announced that her next ward meeting would be held on Thursday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chicago Heights Park District.
Mayor Gonzalez spoke about the recent rains that caused flooding in basements and on streets, saying that the City progressed from 300 resident calls in 2012 to 80 calls the last weekend. The City continued to put project monies into the water/sewer systems, and would do so again with the West Side Drainage project in the spring. The Mayor stated that grant monies would be available for damage caused by the June flash flood, and he expected for the previous weekend's flood damage as well.
He introduced Donna Miller, Cook County Commissioner, who had been very helpful in the City's receipt of a $ 300,000 CDBG grant.
Donna Miller, Cook County Commissioner Sixth District, spoke of the grants that the City recently received through Cook County. A grant for $ 60,485 was awarded to the City's Police and Fire Departments through Cook County's Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management programs. A CDBG grant for $ 300,000 was awarded to the City through HUD and Cook County's CDBG program; funds would be used in the resurfacing project at 23rd and Main Streets. Commissioner Miller spoke about the 2020 Census and her advocacy for a complete count in the south suburban area.

Chief of Staff Zerante gave a short update on the CDBG projects on the North End and on Hickory and Euclid Streets. Work was on schedule with completion expected within the next three weeks. COS Zerante also gave a brief update on the West Side Storm Water Study and the West Side Camera project.
