City of Calumet Committee of the Whole met Sept. 4.

CALL TO ORDER

The Ordinance & Resolution Committee Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Alderman Tillman.

PUBLIC COMMENT 

No Public Comment

ROLL CALL

YEAS: 6

ALDERMEN: Navarrete, Tillman, Williams, Gardner Patton (7:12), Smith. 

ABSENT: ALDERMEN: NONE

Also present were Mayor Michelle Qualkinbush, City Clerk Nyota Figgs, City Treasurer Tarka, City Administrator William Murray, Mayors Assistant Rose Bonato, Inspectional Services Director Sheryl Tillman.

Discussion of Registration of Trailers & Semi Trailers

There was a lengthy discussion on the registration of automotive trailers and all semi-trailers allowable under state of Illinois Statues.

Amend to Art. X Sec. 90-624 Penalty

Council requested the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance to band semi-trucks from parking on residential streets, including an increase to towing fees.

Vacant Property Registration

There was a discussion on vacant property registration and the process.

Legal Guardians of Minors Fines

It was the consensus of the council to have the City Attorney draft an ordinance amending Chapter 62, Section 481 (f) increasing the penalty to $5,000. 

Alderman Tillman & Gardner opposed.

Vehicles in Violation Of ILCS fleeing & Eluding

The City Attorney is currently drafting an ordinance regarding vehicles in violation of ILSC fleeing and eluding the police.

Amend. Ord Chap 14-1

It was the consensus of the council to have the City Attorney draft an ordinance to amend Chap. 41-1A (j) Conditional certificate of compliance procedures to mandate a onetime exception, afterwards to pay a penalty $2,500 to transfer property not to be consecutive.

Multi-Unit Towing Contract Compliance

It was the consensus of the council to have the City Attorney draft an ordinance requiring any property employing the services of a private tow company to register with the city for a fee of $25.

Adjournment

Alderman Patton moved, seconded by Alderman Gardner, to adjourn at 8:32 p.m.
