Educational Report

Lori Connolly reported that Julie Adams will be returning in February to continue her work with effective instructional strategies as related to neuroscience in the child's brain. We will have two half day sessions with Julie so that we can have more of our teachers participate. In addition to the work during the school day with our staff, Julie will provide another parent event. The parent event will focus on digital literacy and citizenship. Julie will be here on February 5th.

Lori also stated that the fall testing is completed. The fall MAP results reflect that the students are near or above the national RIT for the start of the year. The results represent all of our students, including English language learners, special education learners, and our two-way immersion students.

Lori spoke about this being The Year of the Writer. Teachers are selecting 3 students and will be collecting their various writing samples. The idea is to dig in to learn more about the students' strengths, identify missing skills, and evaluate the students' writing progression to better inform them on how to provide writing instruction. Writing instruction is very complicated and many factors can impact students' writing performance. The principals will be focused on how students develop and how the students transfer their learning independently.
