Village of Chicago Ridge issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
As fall is quickly coming to an end, let the Village offer our residents some helpful information.
Some suggestions for disposing of your leaves:
• Place leaves in grey compost containers, paper bags or specifically marked containers. Leaf bags are sold at most home improvement stores or “Yard Waste Only” labels are available at no cost at the Village Hall.
• Hire a private contractor to collect your leaves. Many will provide a free estimate.
• Mow them with your lawn mower as a natural mulch for your lawn.
• Compost them in a corner of your yard or haul to a compost site.
Burning leaves within the Village limits is PROHIBITED! Many leaves, plant materials, tree trimmings and construction debris send millions of spores and harmful fumes into the air when they catch fire, causing many people with allergies and health problems to have difficulty breathing. In addition, illegal burning of yard waste presents the potential of fire spreading to neighboring structures. Those residents caught burning are in violation of Village Code Chapter 28, Section 28-33 and will be ticketed.
Please DO NOT rake your leaves into the street. Piles of leaves CANNOT be picked up by the street sweeper and it just creates a large and dangerous situation for all residents and cars traveling through the Village, not to mention clogging the sewers and causing flooding when it rains.
