LAKE KATHERINE REPORT

Lake Katherine Operations Director, Gareth Blakesley provided the update:

 The Monarch Fest is all set up and will occur on Sunday, September 15.

 Staff have been busy “sprucing up” the grounds; fence repair, lake treatment, weed wacking weeding, and bench paint touch-up.

 Installed 2 bench dedications last week.

 Director Blakesley attended the American Nature Center Administration’s annual symposium. It was very relevant and professional and stressed the importance of partnerships.

 Had our last summer series event last month, “All Things Folk”. Overall the series raised $3,000.00.

PARKS & RECREATION REPORT

Recreation Director, Matt Fairbanks, provided the Parks & Recreation update:

 CAPRA—The Recreation Department is in the process of applying for a National Park and Recreation accreditation (CAPRA). We have 2 years to complete the application. We are working toward completion of 151 standards. Since we likely already have some of the required policies, etc., Director Fairbanks will be reaching out to departments to gather documents to satisfy some of the standards.

 Pool Update – Pool attendance and revenue has decreased in August. We averaged 213 guests per day. Expenses and revenue are still coming in and we are expected to be on budget.

 OSLAD Grant/Palmer Park—We received a $200,000.00 check from the State. Director Fairbanks will be meeting with Upland Design next week.
