City of Palos Heights Public Arts Commission met September 9

Meeting 10

City of Palos Heights Public Arts Commission met Sept. 9.

Here is the agenda provided by the commission:

Attendance: Maria DeCaprio-Sunta, Vanesa Sunta, Lynda Schiappa, Kathleen Peters and John Hanley.

I Call to order:7:15 PM

II.Approval of Minutes: M DeCaprio motioned and V. Sunta seconded. Motion carried.

III. Old Business

A.Reflections Update: We will all check our assigned areas and contact those who have not returned the canvases for the Reflection Mural.

J Hanley will contact City Hall, M. DeCaprio-Sunta will contact library, K Peters will contact the Rec Center

The Regional News wrote a great article about our Reflections Mural in the September 5th edition.

The wood structure to display these canvases is on hold until more are submitted. This structure may be installed after the first of the year based on submissions.

B. Anne Farley Gaines Invoice: lengthy discussion on exact amount due to Anne Gaines for repair work done on mural.. L Schiappa will discuss this with the artist. A new contact to repair / replace the tiles is Georgies Ceramics in Portland Oregon may be used for this. We also discussed the material, porcelain vs bisque.

Once clarification has been made on Anne’s invoice, she will be paid.

C. Proposed New Mural: discussed the possibility of creating a new mural at the Gateway of Palos Heights to be painted on the north side of the Palos Animal Hospital. Ideas discussed included the bike trail, Our Forest Preserves, the Classic Car Event and the presence of the arts in connection to Public Arts Commission

M DeCaprio-Sunta presented a couple designs that she created which we all liked. V Sunta will create a computer version of one which will be presented to city hall for approval,

D. Approval of Bills: None

IV. New business:

A. PAC Facebook page was discussed as to how we could boost our followers. Paid boosts are an option and Vanessa will pursue this and monitor results. Presently have 172 people followers on Facebook.

B. Fall Fest, L Schiappa will contact the Rec Center for more information. A scarecrow will be installed at the Art Garden..

C. Palos Heights Metra train station. At our request, Public Works shaped up the landscaping around the Totem sculpture at the entrance to the station.

It was also brought up as to the condition of the station, graffiti and a general shabby appearance of the station. L Schiappa will look into ownership and who is responsible for the maintenance of this facility.
