VILLAGE OF HAZEL CREST: Hazel Crest Honors One of its Own

Schoolaward2

Village of Hazel Crest issued the following announcement on Jan. 13.

The village held a Yellow Ribbon Memorial yesterday in honor of fallen U-S Army Specialist Henry Mayfield, Jr., who was killed in the line of duty last week when militants attacked a military base in Kenya. Village residents & supporters participated in the ceremony and then took yellow ribbons to tie to trees along streets in Hazel Crest. Area school observed a moment of silence on Tuesday in honor of 23-year-old Mayfield who was a 2014 graduate of Hillcrest High School. It is expected that Hazel Crest police & fire personnel will be joined by veterans later today in a procession from O’Hare Airport to Hazel Crest to escort the young Mayfield home. To help his family after this ultimate sacrifice, a bank fund has been set up for donations. People may contribute to the Henry Mayfield, Jr. Fund at Bank Financial, 3700 W. 183rd Street in Hazel Crest.
