VILLAGE OF CHICAGO RIDGE: Ridgeland Avenue Access to Transit Improvements

Construction

Village of Chicago Ridge issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.

Construction Notice

Construction along Ridgeland Avenue will begin in Spring 2020. Most of the project will be completed between 107th Street and 102nd Place. The work will consist of sidewalk removal and replacement, installation of pedestrian signals and push-buttons at signalized intersections, new pedestrian crosswalks, curb and gutter removal and replacement, replacement of the median on each side of the Metra railroad crossing with brick pavers and landscaping, new pedestrian railroad signals, and roadway and pedestrian lighting.

The project will improve pedestrian access throughout the corridor and will also offer way-finding signs to such destinations as Village Hall, Police Department, Metra Station, Freedom Park and the Library. Visibility along the corridor will also be improved by the replacement of the existing roadway lighting with LED fixtures. LED fixtures consume significantly less electricity than conventional lighting, which will result in a savings to the Village.

Bids were opened this past November and the project was awarded to Landmark Contractors Inc. The Village has secured $1.26 million from a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant and another $200,000 reimbursement grant from the Regional Transportation Authority(RTA) to assist with construction costs.

Motorists can expect lane closures during daytime working hours, which may result in delays. All lanes should be reopened at the end of each work day; however, lane closures may extend into the nighttime, depending on the type of work that is being performed. Construction is anticipated to be completed before Thanksgiving 2020.

If you have any questions regarding this project please contact Village Hall at (708) 425-7700 or the Resident Engineer, Paul Feeney, at (224) 500-7660. The Village of Chicago Ridge thanks you for your patience and cooperation throughout the project.
