Village of Park Forest issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
Park Forest is looking to go green with renewable energy.
Residents this week are receiving letters in the mail alerting them to an electric aggregation switch approved by village board members last month.
Residents will continue to receive their electric bills from ComEd and will continue to pay the same rate billed by ComEd. No increase in rate will occur as a result of this switch.
So what’s the difference and why the switch?
Park Forest will be contracting with a new company, MC Squared (or MC2), who will supply 100% renewable energy, a much friendlier environmental option.
This change in electric supplier comes at no additional cost to residents and businesses.
ComEd will remain your provider and will continue to bill you at the same rate for usage. Your bill will continue to come from ComEd.
Please note that no one from MC2, ComEd or the Village of Park Forest will call or visit your home to enroll your account.
The change is a significant initiative related to Park Forest’s Sustainability Plan and Climate Action and Resilience Plan, which has a goal of reducing Park Forest’s greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent from 2010 to 2025. The change this year to MC2 as the village’s energy supplier reduces Park Forest’s greenhouse gases by 14 percent.
What do you need to do?
Nothing. Unless you’d like to opt out. To opt out, please complete the process within three weeks of receiving the letter.
